Build a Real Relationship with God - Knowing Him Through Experience

Updated: Nov 7, 2024

I have experienced God as many things in life. In some seasons His fatherly nature is more emphasized to me while in others, His friendship is strongly revealed. I have realized in my relationship with God, He is always revealing a new dimension of who He is to me. When we speak of the dimensions of a thing, we know that it has height, width, length, etc. Often in the Bible we see references to the dimensions of God.

Psalm 24:3 Says "Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place?” revealing that there is height to God. The Prophet Isaiah described God as High and lifted up in Isaiah 57:15.

Revelation 22:13 tells us that He is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

In Ephesians 3:18  Apostle Paul prayed that the saints would come to know the depth, the height and the width of God’s love.

“be fully capable of comprehending with all the saints (God’s people) the width and length and height and depth of His love [fully experiencing that amazing, endless love]”

From what we know about the identity of God according to 1 John 4:16 we know that God is love. So ultimately this scripture is saying may you come to know width and length and depth of God Himself.

Although I know that the Bible says Jesus is The Beginning and the End, there was a moment where I knew it. A time where God divinely revealed to me that He knew me in my mother's womb, knit me together and holds my entire life in His hands. There was a moment for me where these words came to life. Believing is one thing, but experiencing is even better.

Physical Bible

There are depths to God that you will forever be experiencing until the end of your physical life and even into eternal life. God is immeasurable yet He desires to be known by you.

What sets the God of the Bible apart from every other religion and practice is that the God of the Bible actually desires a real, personal and intimate relationship with you. The entire Bible shows God’s desire for us to truly know Him.

Let me encourage you with this, if you desire to know God, you will know Him. Jeremiah 29:13 says And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” If you want to know God, and not just know about Him, you have to seek Him with all of your heart. What does this look like? It looks like being all in with God. Choosing daily to do life with Him. Not picking God up on Sundays and forgetting Him throughout the week. If you truly want to experience the dimensions of God, you have to truly be invested in this relationship. Keep this in mind, proximity builds intimacy, so if you draw near to Him, He will certainly draw near to you (James 4:8).

As you intentionally walk with God, I have come to know that He will usher you into unique seasons for the sole purpose of revealing to you the dimensions of His nature. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 expresses how there are seasons for everything. You may notice at certain times, God is really emphasizing your need for healing from things that maybe affected you as a child so you can be whole, in other seasons maybe God is confrontng you about how little you trust Him. In another season God may be teaching you how to love people when its difficult. Begin to pay attention to the season you are in, because each season is intended to teach you something knew about God.

Everytime the Lord reveals to you a different dimension of who He is, it's going to confront an area of your mind that needs to be renewed in order to operate properly as a kingdom citizen. Keep that in mind because in the next blog, we will discuss how the various seasons we go through not only teach you more about God, they can also reveal more about yourself.
